First of all, I want to start this month’s blog entry hoping that everyone reading this is healthy and safe amidst the current pandemic.
I think now more than ever, people are experiencing real stress and concern for the health of themselves and their loved ones which is completely understandable, and I know will continue until the world can fight against this new threat.
However, at a time so intense like this, we should be reaching out to support one another and being mindful of those who need help most.
I’m specifically relating to the selfish bulk-buying that a mass amount of individuals are continuing to do in retaliation to the self-isolation procedures that are being put in place around the world.
Personally, it’s absolutely heart-breaking to see videos of people fighting one another over the last multipack of toilet rolls, or a picture of an elderly man staring at an empty shelf knowing that he won’t eat well that night…
Where is the mindfulness here?
In this time of need, we as humans should be thinking of each other and being kind in our daily lives to boost morale and remain positive, if not, we will only fall harder and become a more broken world than what we already are.
So something as simple as toilet roll or a packet of pasta may not seem like much to you when you’re buying it in masses, but in reality there is someone living in hardship and praying that when they go to Tesco next week the essentials they need will be there.
Now I’m not saying that people shouldn’t be more cautious about how these next few weeks or months are going to pan out, but what I am suggesting is that we be more mindful of other people in the community less able to provide for themselves and who truly need our unprecedented support at this really distressing time.
To finish, all I can really say is please be kind, please be selfless, and please remember what’s really important in the grand scheme of this.
Finally, something that I recommend and believe can personally benefit us all during this stressful time, is for everyone to take an hour out of their day and dedicate it to mindfulness practice, meditation and even a little self-care.
In doing this, I am hopeful that we will all be able to work together with a fresh mind, body and soul to tackle what lies ahead, and ultimately could be used as a coping method for the madness that 2020 has brought us so far…
Take care and be safe,
Aliesha x
